To 350 beneficiaries in district

The State government has sanctioned Rs.1.23 crore for providing cows free of cost to 350 beneficiaries in the district during the current financial year, said N.R.Sivapathi, Minister for School Education, Youth Welfare and Sports, here on Saturday.

Distributing free cows and goats to 58 beneficiaries at Ariyavur near here, Mr.Sivapathi said the cows have been distributed to 100 beneficiaries so far. During the previous year, 450 beneficiaries were given free cows at an expenditure of Rs.1.56 crore.

The State government has also allotted Rs.6.36 crore for the district for providing 19,952 goats to 4,988 beneficiaries during the current financial year.

Of this, 1,237 beneficiaries have been given four goats each. During the previous year, 16,356 goats were distributed to 4089 beneficiaries in the district at an expenditure of Rs.5.19 crore, he added.

The supply of the cows free of cost has contributed to an increase in milk production in the district by 1,500 litres a day, he said.

The Minister distributed free goats to 54 beneficiaries and cows to four beneficiaries in the village in the presence of Collector Jayashree Muralidharan, R.Manoharan, MLA and P.Rajasekaran, Joint Director of Animal Husbandry.

Earlier, he distributed free mixers, grinders and fans to 2135 beneficiaries at Pazhur, Mekkudi, Mullikarumbur, Vayalur and Mathur villages in Andhanallur and Manikandam unions.

He also flagged of bus services which were being operated on extended routes between Chathram Bus Stand and Thoppupatti and Chathram Bus Stand and Sevanthiyanipatti.
