Ariyamangalam garbage dump catches fire again

February 27, 2017 10:20 am | Updated 10:20 am IST - TIRUCHI

Fire broke out yet again on Sunday at the Corporation garbage dump at Ariyamangalam in the city.

The fire that was noticed on a mount of garbage in the morning spread to neighbouring mounts. Soon the area was engulfed with a dense cloud of white smoke.

On information, fire tenders from Tiruchi and Navalpattu rushed to the spot to bring the fire under control.

The Tiruchi Corporation also diverted most of its tankers to put out fire. It was subsequently brought under control after about two hours.

The dump, situated off the Tiruchi-Thanjavur National Highway, receives about 400 tonnes of solid waste every day.

It invariably catches fire in the summer. Several major fire incidents had reported at the dump in the last few years.
