Applications invited

The district administration has invited applications for the district-level arts awards.

The awards are given in the categories of ‘Kalai Ilamani' for artistes below 18 years, ‘Kalai Valarmani' for those in the age group of 19 to 35 years, ‘Kalai Sudarmani' for those in the age group of 36 to 50, ‘Kalai Nanmani' for those between 51 and 60 years and ‘Kalai Mudumani' for those above 61 years of age.

Artistes from the disciplines of Bharathanatyam, kummi, kolattam, oyilattam, mayilattam, thevarattam, pavaikoothu, tholpavai, karagam, kavadi, poikal kuthirai, marakal attam, kolkal attam, kazhiyal attam, kaniyankoothu,manattam, pampattam, kuravan-kurathi attam, azhiyattam, silambattam, painting, sculpture making and musicians including instrumentalists are eligible for the awards.

The awardees would be selected by the District Arts Society. Awardees would be given a cash reward of Rs.2,000 and a certificate. Applications for the awards 2009-10 can be submitted to the Assistant Director of Arts and Culture, 29, Samad School Street, Khaja Nagar, Tiruchi-20 on or before June 10, Collector T.Soundiah said in a press release.
