Students of various schools participated in an Anti-Child Labour Day awareness rally held in the town on Friday.
Collector A. Suganthi flagged off the rally from the Public Office and marched along with the students.
The students carrying placards and banners with slogans underlining the need for elimination of child labour for the overall development of the society, salient features of compulsory education scheme, importance of achieving higher education etc, marched through the Government Headquarters Hospital, West Main Street, Brindavan and reached Municipal Office.
Boys, girls and teachers of government High Schools at Tirugokarnam, Santhaipettai, Raniyar Girls HSS, Sacred Heart HSS, Samskritha Vidayalaya Oriental School, Sri Prahadambal Govenrment Boys HSS, Baliah HSS, St. Mary's HSS, participated in the rally. At the end, anti-child labour pledge was administered to them.
T. Hariharan, Chief Educational Officer, V. Rukmani, Additional CEO, Sarva Shiksha Abiyan (in-charge), R. Chandrasekaran, PA to the Collector (panchayat development), V. Srinivasan, Labour Welfare Officer, D. Sitharthan, Inspector of Factories, and other officials marched along with the students.
