Collector K. Govindaraj on Thursday said that a sum of ₹1.20 lakh has been collected as fine from various individuals, builders and commercial establishments for failing to destroy mosquito breeding sources.
He visited various parts of the town, including State Bank Colony, Sakthi Nagar, Kamarajar Market, municipal office premises and others to check the dengue-control measures being initiated.
Mr. Govindaraj said that the State government had been taking various steps to bring fever cases under control.
Officials of village, town and municipalities and public health department had been carrying out dengue preventive measures.
The cooperation of people was very important for controlling dengue fever, he added.
Residents, traders and merchants should not give room for storing water in waste materials such as tyres, coconut shells and abandoned baskets as they were the main source of mosquito-breeding sites. Fine would be imposed on those failing to destroy dengue breeding sources, he reiterated.
Earlier, Mr. Govindaraj issued order to impose fine of ₹20,000 on four persons for failing to destroy dengue breeding sources on their premises.
