Plan to set up spinning wheel in Karur

Transport Minister M.R. Vijayabaskar on Saturday said that the State government had decided to set up a big size spinning wheel in Karur to recognise the contribution of handloom weavers of the town and the State in nation building.

Speaking at a function after inaugurating a special exhibition of handloom products here, he said that spinning wheel had been the symbol of the country since the freedom movement. It was opt to set up a replica of spinning wheel in Karur as it had a large number of handloom weavers.

Mr. Vijayabaskar said that the Department of Handlooms and Textile would set up the replica. The process of selecting a site had been initiated. Collector K. Govindaraj and others took part in the function.
