A massive 32-feet Sri Sankatahara Mangala Viswarupa Anjaneya idol was consecrated at Thiruvonamangalam village on Kumbakonam-Alankudi road in Tiruvarur district on Sunday.
Hundreds of people witnessed the holy event and worshipped Lord Anjaneya.
The stone idol weighing 60 tonnes has been sculpted by Walajabad Puliyampadi Ramakrishna Sthapathi and his sons. The idol was lifted by a crane and installed at the Gnanapuri.
According to S.Ramani Anna, founder-cum-managing trustee of Viswa Samrashana Maruthi Sevasramam Trust, nine acres of land has been allotted for the project.
Out of this, the temple will be constructed on 5.5 acres of land.
The Anjaneya idol consecrated on Sunday is identical to the ones installed in Chennai and Puducherry, Mr.Ramani Anna said.
Four unique herbs from Sanjeevi Barvatham were placed on the deity. Yagasala pujas started on June 7. Prathishta Jeba Homams were performed by Kumbakonam Chandi homam expert Brahmasri Dinakara Sharma.
