Anganwadi workers stage demonstration

Anganwadi workers in the district staged a demonstration here on Monday in support of their 10-point charter of demands.

The demonstration call was given by the Tamil Nadu Anganwadi Workers and Helpers Association.

The stir held near the Collectorate was headed by the association’s Tiruchi district president M. Savithri.

Filling up of vacant posts, grant of Rs. 26,000 per month as minimum wage and grant of Rs. 3 lakh to anganwadi workers at the time of retirement and Rs 2 lakh to helpers at the time of retirement were among their demands.

They also urged the government not to thrust other department works on anganwadi workers other than the works assigned to them.
