Two persons accused in the rape of an Andhra Pradesh girl in the city recently have been detained under the Goondas Act.

Siva alias Sakthivel and Pon. Kamaraj were detained as ‘immoral traffic offenders’ on the orders of the Commissioner of Police Shailesh Kumar Yadav.

The accused have been lodged in the Tiruchi Central Prison, a police release said.

On May 29, the Telugu girl escaped from a house at Selva Nagar and was handed over by the public to the Cantonment All Women Police.

Police enquiries revealed that the girl was lured with the promise of a job by Asha alias Karthiga Devi to Salem where the latter was running a beauty parlour.

Asha had sold the Andhra girl to Siva alias Sakthivel, a pimp, for a sum.

Siva and his customer Pon. Kamaraj allegedly assaulted the girl in a running car while bringing her to Tiruchi from Salem.

Pon. Kamaraj had offered his car to Siva to take the girl to Tiruchi and push her into prostitution.

Both were arrested a few days back by the police.

They have been detained under the Tami Nadu Act 14/ 1982 to maintain public order and health, the release said.
