‘Amma Unavagams’ declared open

Four in Thanjavur district, four in Tiruvarur, three in Karur

‘Amma Unavagams’ were opened in Tiruchi, Perambalur and Ariyalur districts on Sunday to provide a host of quality food items at low cost to the poorer sections of the society. Chief Minister Jayalalithaa inaugurated the eateries through video conference from Chennai.

In Tiruchi city, the Amma Unavagam was opened at Srirangam government hospital premises at a cost of Rs. 29.86 lakhs on an area of 1,550 square feet. The city has 10 such ‘unavagams’ at different places.

The Amma Unavagams in Perambalur were opened at the new bus stand and at the government headquarters hospital premises.

In Ariyalur district, the eateries were opened at Ariyalur bus stand, government headquarters hospital and at Jayamkondam, at a total cost of Rs. 94 lakhs. Reverse osmosis plants have been set up at ‘unavagams’ to provide clean drinking water to the public.

Tiruchi Collector Palanisamy, Mayor A. Jaya, Perambalur Collector Darez Ahamed and Ariyalur Collector A. Saravanavelraj were present at the respective places during the inaugural function. MLAs, local body officials and representatives were present on the occasion, a press release said.

Pudukottai

In Pudukottai district, the eateries were inaugurated near the Old Bus stand, Ranee’s Government Maternity Hospital both in Pudukottai and near the bus stand in Aranthangi, each unit constructed at a cost of Rs. 40 lakh.

Collector S. Ganesh, R. Rajasekaran, Pudukottai Municipal Chairman, and V.C. Ramaiah, District Panchayat President, were present.

The Chief Minister also declared open buildings constructed by the Tamil Nadu Police Housing Corporation at an estimate of Rs. 3 crore. The infrastructure included traffic police station in Pudukottai at Rs. 40 lakh; police canteen at Rs.7 lakh; police station at Semmattividuthi at Rs. 38.80 lakh; Sub-Inspector quarters at Rs.11.45 lakh besides police quarters at Rs.1.79 crore at Namanasamuthiram. E.S. Uma, Superintendent of Police, witnessed the inauguration.

Thanjavur

Amma Unavagams have at last arrived in Thanjavur and Tiruvarur districts. Within a day of her resuming office as Chief Minister Jayalalithaa launched yet another batch of Amma Unavagams on Sunday, an exercise in which Thanjavur and Tiruvarur benefited. The immensely popular eateries, that were in incubation for a very long time pending her return, finally saw the light of day.

In Thanjavur district, four new outlets were opened at Thilagar Thidal, Thanjavur Medical College Hospital, Kumbakonam and Pattukkottai. Collector N. Subbaiyan, Thanjavur MP K. Parasuraman, MLAs M. Rengasamy (Thanjavur), M. Rethinasamy (Tiruvaiyaru), Mayor Savitri Gopal, District Panchayat Chairperson Amudharani Ravichandran, Corporation Commissioner Kumar, TMCH Dean Sankaranarayanan and others participated.

In Tiruvarur district, Amma Unagavams were launched with great fanfare from the public in Tiruvarur, Mannargudi, Tiruthuraipoondi and Koothanallur. Collector M. Mathivanan, District Revenue Officer T. Mohanraj, AIADMK Tiruvarur twon secretary R.D. Moorthy, Tiruvarur RDO Muthumeenakshi participated in the programmes.

Karur

Chief Minister Jayalalithaa declared open three Amma canteens in Karur district on Sunday. They have been constructed at a cost of Rs.1.35 crore (each Rs.45 lakh) at old bus stand, Government Hospitals at Karur and Kulithalai. Soon after the inauguration, Collector S. Jayandhi visited a canteen in Karur to start the sale of food items.
