AIDS awareness through folk arts

Cultural programmes including folk arts will be conducted for 50 days throughout the district to create awareness among the people of HIV/AIDS disease, said Collector B. Maheswari here on Thursday.

Inaugurating the HIV/AIDS awareness campaign and the folk arts cultural programmes, the Collector said that as many as 2,975 persons were affected by the AIDS in the district. Pointing out that the campaign has been organised by the Tamil Nadu AIDS Control Society, the Collector requested people no to become panicky.

She pointed that cultural programmes such as drama, dance and songs, will be conducted by various NGOs in the district. Dr. M. Suryakala, Joint Director of Medical Services; Dr.G.Krishnaleela, Deputy Director of Health Services; Dr.S.R. Chandrasekar, Deputy Director (Tuberculosis), and other officials attended the function.
