ADRM takes charge

M.A.V. Ramanujan took charge as Additional Divisional Railway Manager, Tiruchi Division, on Wednesday. He replaces R.S. Rajpurohit. Mr.Ramanujan is also the Chairman, Public Grievances Redressal Machinery and the Appellate Authority under Right to Information Act, 2005 at the Divisional level. He has served in the Indian Railways in various capacities in the Open Line and Construction organisation. He has also worked on deputation with Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation. Prior to joining as ADRM, Tiruchi, he was working at South Western Railway, Hubli Headquarters, according to a press release.

Banana auctioned

About 630 bunches of different varieties of banana were auctioned at the Integrated Market Complex for Banana at Thiruchendurai in the district on Wednesday.

Top quality poovan banana fetched a maximum of Rs.110 a bunch, rasthali Rs.120 and pachaladan Rs.120 a bunch. The next auction at the complex would be held on November 24, an official release said.

Indira remembered

Cadre of the Congress garlanded the statue of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi at Puthur in the city on Thursday on the occasion of the leader’s birth anniversary. The also took a national integration pledge as the day was observed as National Integration Day. Jerome Arockiaraj, Urban District Congress President, R.C.Babu, South District President and Jayaprakash, North District President, were present.

Demonstration

Members of the Southern Railway Mazdoor Union staged demonstrations in front of the Golden Rock Railway Workshop and the office of the Divisional Railway Manager in the city on Thursday to press for their charter of demands including implementation of the Seventh Pay Commission recommendations with effect from January 1, 2014. The union, among other things, demanded removal of ceiling for bonus and gratuity, withdrawal of the new pension scheme and attempts to privatise locomotive sheds and coach factories.

Blood donors felicitated

Male blood donors who had donated blood more than three times and female donors who had donated blood more than twice during 2014 were felicitated during the National Voluntary Blood Donation Day observation held at the Collector’s Office here on Thursday. Collector K.S.Palanisamy felicitated the donors and also distributed prizes to educational institutions which had organised blood donation camps. Speaking on the occasion Mr.Palanisamy said the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital had conducted 97 camps and collected 9,604 units of blood and the Manapparai Government Hospital had conducted 18 camps to collect 584 units of blood during the year.
