Work on construction of the Government Medical College in Pudukottai is nearing completion and admissions will commence during the academic year 2017-18 with an initial intake of 150 students, said C. Vijaya Baskar, Minister for Health.

Addressing the media after inspecting the building at Mullur on the Pudukottai-Thanajavur highway on an area of 127 acres at an estimate of ₹229 crore, the Minister said that the Medical Council of India had already inspected the building and the infrastructure provided at the college.

The civil works completed included buildings for the college, administrative building and residential quarters for the faculty.

He said that the college was the dream of the late Chief Minister Jayalalithaa who not only sanctioned it but also laid the foundation.
