All departments should extend their cooperation to initiate measures towards tackling floods or cyclonic storms caused by the north-east monsoon, said Collector A.Suganthi on Thursday.

Presiding over an official meeting convened to discuss preventive stepsto be taken by each department, the Collector said all schools and Cyclone Relief Centres should be kept ready for accommodating the residents from low-lying areas. Action should be taken to arrest the spread of epidemic through supply of boiled water .

Ms.Suganthi also asked the local body officials to widen the channels, wherever needed, to prevent stagnation of storm water. The Collector asked the officials from the Fire Service and Rescue Department to keep ready boats and equipment for rescuing those stranded in floods.

The Collector advised the Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation officials to stock essential commodities for distribution to the needy.

On the preventive measures in the coastal villages, the Collector advised the Fisheries Department officials to co-ordinate with the Coastal Security Group personnel.
