All the zonal level flying squads, with three members including from the police and revenue departments, would start functioning from Thursday, according to a press release from the district administration. Already, 54 flying squads and 27 Static Surveillance Teams were functioning in the district.

Meeting with observers

Meanwhile, the election Observers appointed for the district held a meeting with the 350 micro observers who would be monitoring the polling in the district on May 16. The micro observers are drawn from various central government agencies including the Railways, banks, BHEL, LIC, Central Excise and Kendriya Vidyalayas. The micro observers would be deployed in 270 polling stations identified as vulnerable in the district.

Apart from the micro observers, polling would also be webcast from these polling stations.

The micro observers were briefed on their role during the polling and the various aspects they would be required to watch. They were instructed to ensure that voters were allowed to vote only with any one of the 11 valid identification documents prescribed by the Election Commission. The micro observers should conduct mock polling prior to the commencement of the actual polling. Once polling was over, they should ensure that the close button was pressed in the electronic voting machines.
