Tiruchi City Corporation has sought the ratification of Asian Development Bank (ADB) on the technical competence of bidders, who have submitted tenders for the second phase of the underground drainage (UGD) scheme project. ADB has agreed to fund the project
The project, to be implemented under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT), is estimated to cost ₹344 crore.
The Centre will contribute 50% (₹172 crore), of the project cost, the State 20% (₹68.80 crore) and Tiruchi Corporation 10% (₹34.40 crore). ADB will extend a loan of ₹68.80 crore.
Individual connections
As per the plan, sewer lines will be laid for a distance of 319 km and pumping mains for 22 km. It will enable the civic body to provide 43,147 individual connections. A site at Keezha Kalkandarkottai has been identified for installing the sewage treatment plant. It is expected to take at least three to four years to complete the second phase of the sewerage collection system.
Two packages
The execution of the project has been divided into two packages. While package-I will cover Kattur (south and North), Win Nagar, Raja Rajeswari Nagar, Kalkandarkottai, Balaji Nagar and Ukkadai (North and South), the package-II will cover Sanjeevi Nagar, Devathanam, Thendral Nagar, Viswas Nagar, Mahalakshmi Nagar, Vekkalimamman Nagar, Panikan Street, Sevvandhi Nagar, Annamalai Nagar, Nathersha Pallivasal, Maris Avenue and Ammayappa Nagar.
According to sources, three bidders have submitted tenders for package-I, and two have evinced interest for package-II. As per the standard procedure, the tender documents have been submitted to ADB to carry out technical evaluation of the bidders. Of the two packages, it is said that a committee constituted by ADB has cleared the documents of two bidders of package-II. It is in the process of evaluating the technical competence of three bidders of package-I.
Corporation Commissioner cum Special Officer N. Ravichandran told The Hindu that it was mandatory to get the ratification of ADB, in its capacity as a major financier of the project, on the technical competence of the companies, who have submitted tender documents, before opening the price bid.
ADB had cleared two companies suitable for executing package-II. Following this, their price bid had been opened. For package-I, the price bid would be opened soon after getting the ADB notification, the Commissioner added.
