A total number of 186 act apprentices were inducted for training in different trades at the Golden Rock Railway Workshop here on Wednesday. They would be trained under the Apprentice Training Scheme of Apprentice Act, 1961.

The trades in which the apprentices would undergo training include fitter, welder, machinist, diesel mechanic; mechanic machine tool maintenance and mechanic refrigeration & air conditioning. The duration of the training ranges from one to three years depending upon the trade chosen by the apprentices.

This is the 97th batch of act apprentices to undergo training at the Golden Rock Railway Workshop.

They would be provided a stipend during the course of their training. They were selected based on a common written examination conducted at the workshop in April.

Upon completion of training, the apprentices would appear for the examination which will be conducted by the National Council of Vocational Training (NCVT) and Apprenticeship Training Certificate would be given to them by the NCVT that comes under the Union Ministry of Labour.

A formal induction programme was organised at the workshop in which the Chief Workshop Manager P. Mahesh and senior workshop officials participated.
