Academic toppers carry home an ‘Ugadi gift’

Distribution of prizes to Plus Two and SSLC examination toppers marked the Ugadi celebrations organised by the District Nayudus Association here on Thursday.

M. Vijayaraghavan, secretary, Mannar Tirumalai Nayakkar College, Madurai, was the chief guest and he gave away silver medals to nine toppers of the public examinations.

S. Kesavan of Iluppur (1,163 marks), V. Lakshmipriya of Pudukottai (1,150) and V. Ramprasad of Pudukottai (1,135), toppers of Plus Two examinations, and G. R. Sharmiladevi (473), R. Ramya (466), S. Aparajith (448), toppers in SSLC examination. All the toppers received silver medals. Consolation prizes were given to R. Pooja in Plus Two and R. Jagadish and G. Ramya in SSLC examinations. S. Venkatasubbu Naidu, president of the association, presided over the function.

A. Janarthanam, secretary, presented the annual report. M. Rangaramanujam, honorary president of the association, and Gopalakrishnan, advisor, offered felicitations.

Thanjavur

Ugadi was celebrated by Telugu-speaking people in the district.

Students from Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra, studying at SASTRA University, celebrated Ugadi festival by laying rangolis and reading panchangam. Pujas were also performed.
