The Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) system, wherein a voter will be able to see a printout of the symbol of the candidate to whom he has voted, will be introduced in the Tiruchi West constituency in the district for the first time in the Assembly election.
Special VVPAT machines will be used in all 271 polling stations of the constituency. The printout of the image, which could be viewed through a glass window, would be retained in the VVPAT unit.
Three-hundred and thirty-one VVPAT machines have been brought here from Bihar, Collector K.S.Palanisamy said addressing a press conference here on Saturday. It was during the by-election to the Noksen Assembly constituency of Nagaland in September 2013 the VVPAT was launched in the country. According to sources, the VVPAT machines are to be used in 17 constituencies during the Assembly poll in the State.
