Cricketers have always been a huge draw among youth. And no surprises there when Test cricketer S.Badrinath received a rousing welcome from the students of Mount Zion College of Engineering and Technology here on Sunday.
Mr.Badrinath was the chief guest for the 13th annual sports meet of the college and the students were visibly thrilled to find the ace batsman in their midst. The applause grew louder when Mr.Badrinath said the legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar was his role model.
“ Sporting activities help individuals in their overall development,” said Mr.Badrinath, who made his international debut against Sri Lanka in an ODI in 2008.
Sports played a constructive role in helping a person handle success and failure with equanimity, he said.
Jayabarathan Chelliah, chairman, Mount Zion Educational Institutions, advised students to take part in physical activities to keep their mind and body fresh.
A.Miller Sahajan (IV year Aeronautical Engineering) and S.Adlin Hannah (IV year Civil Engineering) were adjudged individual champions in the men's and women's sections respectively.
Blue House won the overall championship. Mr.Badrinath gave away the prizes in the presence of Florence Jayabarathan, vice-chairperson, Jayson K.Jayabarathan, director, A.Nixon Azariah, registrar, and P.Balamurugan, principal.
