SRMU demonstration

THANJAVUR: Protesting the “anti-labour policies” and privatisation moves of the railways, members of the Southern Railway Mazdoor Union (SRMU) staged demonstrations in Thanjavur and Tiruvarur on Monday.

In Thanjavur, SRMU members led by branch secretary Balu staged the demonstration in front of the Senior Section Engineer Office condemning moves to privatise Darjeeling, Shimla and Nilgiris Mountain Railways, divestment of shares in IRCTC, filling up 2.5 lakh vacancies in safety and section work positions, dropping the anti-labour policies, stop interfering in the union rights of supervisors among other issues.

SRMU branch treasurer Philominraj, vice-president Raja, deputy secretary Murugan and others participated in the demonstration.

In Tiruvarur, branch secretary Mohanraj and others participated in the demonstration held at Tiruvarur Junction to highlight the same demands.
