Musicians pay tribute to Tyagaraja

TIRUCHI: Leading musicians paid tributes to saint-composer Tyagaraja, one of the music trinity, by rendering the pancharatna kritis at the annual aradhana hosted by the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan in the city on Sunday.

A large number of music lovers also participated in the event held at Sri Raghavendra Mutt in Srirangam.

Over 35 vocalists and instrumentalists, including Madhwa Prasad, Champa Kalkura , B.V.Jayashree, Jayalakshmi Sarma, B. Sivakumar, S.V.Mythili, Prapancham Mukhya Praana, S.Krishnaswamy and V. Mohanram, participated in the rendering.

Ms. Jayashree explained the importance of the pancharatna kritis. R.A. Krishnakumar, Executive Director, Dalmia Cement (Bharat) Ltd., and N.G. Ramesh, Assistant General Manager, State Bank of India, were the chief guests.

T.V. Murali, honorary secretary, Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan, Tiruchi Kendra, said that this was the sixth consecutive year that the Kendra was organising the Tyagaraja aradhana in the city with the support of musicians.
