Barricades have been arranged by the traffic police in Chinthamani area near Chathram bus stand in Tiruchi to ease congestion.

In an effort to ease congestion and avoid accidents at the busy Chinthamani area near Chathram bus stand, the City Traffic Police have put in place a new arrangement to regulate vehicles. Barricades have been placed to a certain stretch along the Karur bypass road near the Anna statue in a bid to prevent jamming of vehicles at the Chinthamani area.

The traffic police have also placed barricades near the Anna statue roundabout to prevent motorists from going straight to Melachinthamani area or to Old Karur Road or towards the Cauvery bridge from the Chinthamani Bazaar Road.

The new arrangement has been made in view of frequent congestion witnessed at Chinthamani area causing discomfiture to vehicle users, say traffic police sources.

The barricades have been placed in such a manner to make way for vehicles including buses proceeding to Srirangam, Samayapuram and Perambalur without getting held up at the spot.

Likewise, vehicles proceeding towards Chathram bus stand from the Karur bypass road could take a turn at the Anna statue roundabout, said a police officer.

The arrangement through segregation was done after studying the congestion that prevails more during peak hours in the morning and evening at Chinthamani – a notified spot for conducting demonstrations, said the sources.

Police sources said a meeting would soon be held with the Highways Department officials on easing congestion on the Madurai Road.
