Madurai-Tirupati Express: passengers seek stops at major junctions

April 17, 2011 12:53 am | Updated 12:53 am IST - TIRUCHI:

Though the introduction of the Madurai–Tirupati bi-weekly express on the main line has been widely welcomed by passengers of the central districts, the failure of the Railways to provide stops for the train even in the major stations such as Kumbakonam, Mayiladuthurai, Chidambaram in both the directions has caused much resentment.

The train, introduced all of a sudden last month, will be stopping only at Tiruchi and Thanjavur junctions.

‘Unjustified'

This is totally unjustified and the Railways should come forward to provide stops at Kumbakonam and Mayiladuthurai, say a cross section of the people of Thanjavur, Tiruvarur and Nagapattinam districts.

Moreover, its arrival time at Thanjavur is also not passenger friendly, they say.
