TIRUCHI: A male spotted deer died after being bitten by dogs at Periyamanappati near Manapparai on Sunday. Locals noticed the dogs biting a deer which had apparently strayed into the village.

After driving away the dogs, the locals informed the Forest Department officials about the incident. The three-year-old animal was taken to the veterinary hospital at Manapparai for treatment. However, the deer succumbed to injuries a few hours later.

The carcass was thereafter taken to S. Keelaiyur where a post mortem was conducted and subsequently buried in the reserve forest at Poigaimalai, the department officials said.
