Over 800 contract workers of public sector Neyveli Lignite Corporation were arrested after they picketed the railway station and staged a road roko here in support of their demands, police said.

At the railway station, they blocked the Cuddalore-Tiruchirapalli passenger train, delaying its departure for about 10 minutes, while another group blocked the Cuddalore-Tiruchirapalli road for about one hour, police said.

Meanwhile, Veeraramachandran, president of NLC authorised DMK trade union said the ninth round of talks here yesterday to resolve the strike by over 13,000 contract workers had failed after the management reportedly refused to concede their demand to send back some ‘outside’ contract workers.

The strike by contract workers on their 10 point charter of demands, including permanent employment and higher salaries entered the 14th day today.
