The district administration has made efforts to enhance green cover in the district by distributing saplings to schools, colleges, and factories for planting them in their respective premises, Collector Jayashree Muralidharan said on Wednesday at a function organised to launch planting of saplings on the sprawling combined court complex here.
Ms. Muralidharan said a little over two lakh saplings had been distributed by the Forest Department in the district and added that the survival rate of the saplings was over 70 per cent. She said 7,000 to 8,000 saplings had been planted in the city and were being maintained by the Tiruchirapalli City Corporation and the Forest Department. Principal District and Sessions Judge P. Velmurugan, and Tiruchi Bar Association president S. Veerapandian spoke.
