Around 400 school students took part in the district-level summer coaching camp, which concluded at Anna Stadium here on Sunday.

Organised by the Tiruchi unit of Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu, the 21-day camp featured athletics, basketball, football, hockey, volleyball, tennis, badminton, handball, boxing, taekwondo, kho-kho, gymnastics, and netball. It was held for boys and girls aged below 16.

“The camp evoked good response and saw enthusiastic participation of youngsters,” said P. Kalaiselvan, District Sports Officer.

He said the participants were trained in the basics of their chosen sport at the camp. “Many youngsters are showing keenness to undergo regular training.

The support from the parents is also good,” Mr. Kalaiselvan added.

Speaking at the valediction, N. Annavi, former international high jumper and secretary, Tiruchi District Athletic Association, said that such camps provided a good platform for the budding sportspersons to develop their skills.

Mr. Annavi gave away certificates to the participants.
