The labour department officials conducted surprise check in shops, business establishments, petrol retail outlets, and fair price shops in Tiruchi and Pudukottai recently and booked 372 cases for various violations.
A team of officials led by S. Sundararaj, assistant commissioner of labour, conducted the checks and booked 280 cases under the Shops and Establishments Act, five cases under the Hotels Act, eight cases under the National Holidays Act, 40 cases for using non-certified weights and measures under the Weights and Measures Act, five cases for not displaying mandatory details on packages.
Cases have been booked against six petrol bunks, seven diesel outlets, and three kerosene bunks for under weighing commodities.
The officials also booked thirteen cases against the fair price shop personnel for the under weighing essential commodities and using non-certified weights and measures.
Five cases were registered against transport operators for not maintaining proper registers.
The raids were conducted on the direction of N.V. Tayumanavar, additional labour commissioner, and K. Maharajan, joint commissioner of labour (in-charge).
