32 injured in jallikattu

Veterinary teams reject seven bulls

Jallikattu held at Pothamettupatti near Manapparai on Wednesday caused injuries to 32 persons.

Lasting a little over seven hours, 424 bulls from various districts and 349 tamers took part in the event. Collector K.S. Palanisamy and Superintendent of Police T. Senthil Kumar monitored it.

The event began at around 9 a.m. with bulls being let out from the ‘vaadi vaasal’ one after the other. Veterinary teams which examined the bulls rejected seven of them.

A total number of 28 tamers were barred from taking part for failing to adhere to rules.

Five tamers suffered injuries and they were referred to the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital in Tiruchi.

Spectators

Twenty four among the injured were spectators while eight were tamers.
