A group of residents of wards 59 and 60 staged a protest in front of the office of the Junior Engineer of the Tiruchirapalli City Corporation in Woraiyur on Monday alleging disruption in drinking water supply over the past few days. Led by R.Arivudainambi, councillor of ward 59, around 300 women assembled in front of the office alleging that drinking water has not been supplied to them for the last five to six days.

They dispersed from the spot after Corporation Executive Engineer R.Chandran assured to set right the problem. Mr.Arivudainambi alleged that the problem has been persisting ever since the civic body started supplying water to the wards from the new drinking water supply augmentation scheme with its sources at Coleroon River. All these years, the areas were getting supply from the Main Pumping Station on the Cauvery River.

Corporation officials maintained that but for a few minor hiccups water supply was being provided to the areas from the Coleroon River as per the plans drawn up by the civic body.
