Residents of Burma Colony and Thideer Nagar near Tiruverumbur sought the district administration’s intervention for immediate issue of pattas to 300 families, and demanded action against persons who had claimed to represent the Railway department and recently issued a threat that their land would be forcibly possessed soon by the department if they did not vacate.

The residents of the localities that were brought into the corporation limits last year realised after obtaining information under the Right to Information Act that they had been threatened wrongly. At the collectorate, over 100 residents squatted near the hall where the Collector, Jayashree Muralidharan, was conducting the weekly grievances meeting as they were told that only a delegation would be allowed to meet her.

Ms.Muralidharan intervened and permitted the residents to present their petitions individually.
