Three passengers were killed and 25 others injured when a bus in which they were traveling plunged into a 20-foot deep roadside pit near here on Tuesday.

Police said a front tyre of the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation bus from Salem to Batlagundu burst forcing the vehicle out of driver Jayasing’s control. Consequently the bus wobbled and fell into the pit.

Two passengers were killed on the spot while another succumbed to injuries on the way to the Dindigul hospital. A total of 25 other passengers who suffered various injuries were rushed to government and private hospitals in Dindigul for treatment. DSP Baskaran and other officials rushed to the spot and arranged the relief operations.
