999 bulls, 400 tamers took part in the event

As many as 27 persons were injured in jallikattu held at Annavasal in the district on Wednesday.

The event was inaugurated by Health Minister C. Vijaya Baskar in the presence of Collector S. Ganesh and revenue officials.

Official sources said as many as 999 bulls brought from districts such as Pudukottai, Thanjavur, Tiruchi, Dindigul and Sivaganga and 400 tamers took part in the event.

The bulls and tamers were subjected to examination by veterinary and medical teams prior to being allowed to participate.

Eight among the 27 injured were referred to the Pudukottai Medical College Hospital for higher treatment.

The remaining were treated at the spot, said police sources.
