Unidentified persons gained entry into a house at Somasarampet near here and decamped with gold jewellery weighing a little over 26 sovereigns when the inmates were away recently.

The crime came to light after the house owner R. Soosai Raj (54), the complainant, returned back from Kanyakumari in the early hours of Monday.

The offence took place when Soosai Raj, a railway employee in Tiruchi, went to Kanyakumari along with his wife on the night of March 23.

Police sources said the culprits gained entry into the house after breaking the front door locks by reportedly using a crowbar and made away with the gold jewellery kept inside the bureau.

Fingerprint experts visited the crime scene and a sniffer dog was utilised to track the route taken by the culprits.

The Somarasampet police have registered a case.
