235 turn up for essay contest

Over 235 students participated in the elocution and essay writing competitions held at the Khajamalai campus of the Bharathidasan University in the city on Wednesday as part of the youth melas being organised by the Adolescent Health Committee of Federation of Obstetrics and Gynaecological Societies of India, All Tamil Nadu Federation of Obstetrics and Gynaecologists, and the Department of Women’s Studies, Bharathidasan University.

The youth melas are being held to sensitise the youths on nutrition and anaemia prevention, first aid, fitness, preventing unwanted pregnancy, presentation skills, sexual harassment at work place, and yoga. The competitions were held on empowerment of women. About 91 students participated in the elocution competition and 137, including 3 visually-challenged students of the university, participated in the essay writing competition, according to a press release.
