Preventive measures will be carried out within the city limits through careful monitoring mechanisms in the wake of dengue scare in some parts of the State, Corporation Commissioner V.P.Dhandapani said on Monday.
65 wards
Though no dengue case has been reported so far in Tiruchi, 22 zonal officers will be entrusted with three wards each to cover 1.80 lakh households in the 65 wards. Alongside creating awareness among people to involve them in preventive measures by ways of not letting fresh water to stagnate around their households and keeping water tanks closed so that breeding of larva could be arrested, the corporation will deploy sanitation workers to spray mosquito repellents at railway station and bus stands. Hospitals will be requested to immediately alert the corporation in case of detection of dengue cases for better execution of preventive measures.
Chairing a meeting of senior officials, Mr.Dhandapani said priority would be accorded to maintenance of cleanliness and hygiene, and utmost care would be taken for proper maintenance of public toilets. He urged all officials to work in tandem for providing protected drinking water to all people.
The Commissioner said the corporation would soon conduct employment-oriented skill-training programmes for socio-economic uplift of poor people in the age group of 18 to 45 years with a minimum qualification of a pass in standard V, under the National Urban Livelihood Mission.
The public will soon be provided with two contact numbers for conveying civic requirements. Two officials will be specifically assigned the task of registering the grievances and taking prompt follow-up action, Mr.Dhandapani said.
Earlier, interacting with media, the Commissioner said that the corporation would explore scope for upgrading schools in its fold into higher secondary institutions even if it warrants purchase of land from private parties. Improving sanitation facilities in the corporation schools would be the priority , he said.
