2 held for placing concrete sleeper on railway track

Intention was to derail train, say police

The Government Railway Police (GRP) have arrested two persons on the charge of placing a concrete sleeper on the railway track between Poovanur and Ulundurpet a few days ago.

The engine of the Guruvayur – Chennai Express hit the concrete sleeper and was detained for a few minutes on the evening of November 24. The Vriddhachalam GRP registered a case under Section 153 of the Railway Act. Addressing reporters here on Saturday, Superintendent of Police, GRP, Tiruchi, K. Mohan, said R. Ilayaraja (28) and K. Prakash alias Kalaimani (29) were arrested on Friday. They were produced before the Judicial Magistrate Court at Vriddhachalam and lodged at Central Prison, Cuddalore. Mr. Mohan claimed that the intention of the accused was to derail the train.
