As many as 17,353 nominations have been received for the 4,420 seats in various local bodies in Tiruchi district, excluding the Tiruchi Corporation.
On Thursday, the last date for filing of nominations, 8,121 nominations were filed resulting in a flurry of activity.
A maximum of 11, 621 nominations have been received for the 3,408 village panchayat wards and 2,369 for 404 village panchayat presidents post.
The 241 panchayat union wards have attracted 1,488 nominations and the 24 district panchayat wards, 163 nominations.
For the 252 town panchayat wards, 1,168 candidates have entered the fray while 120 nominations have been received for the 16 town panchayat president posts.
The 72 municipal wards have attracted 395 nominations and 29 persons have filed nominations for the post of chairpersons of the three municipalities.
