A total number of 173 home guards recruits of Tiruchi district passed out successfully on Thursday after completing training.
The passing-out parade of the home guards recruits was held at the Armed Reserve Ground with the Inspector General of Police, Central Zone, A. Alexander Mohan taking the salute.
The recruits were imparted basic training for 20 days and weapon training for 15 days at the five sub divisions – Jeeyapuram, Tiruverumbur, Lalgudi, Musiri and Manapparai. They were also trained in fire fighting, rescue, first aid and traffic control.
Addressing the recruits after inspecting the ceremonial march past, IG Alexander Mohan said home guards personnel were utilised in local body elections and in the recent by-poll to Pudukottai Assembly constituency.
He called upon the newly inducted home guards personnel to enhance their skills and carry out the tasks assigned to them with patience, dedication and determination. Inspector General of Police and Deputy Director of Civil Defence, Deputy Commandant General, Tamil Nadu Home Guards B.K. Ravi said the State government had enhanced the strength of the home guards across the State by 4,000.
Superintendent of Police, Tiruchi R. Lalitha Lakshmi, said 110 additional home guards personnel had been recruited in Tiruchi district following sanction accorded by the State government.
