For artists of Pudukottai, Karur, Tiruchi, and Thanjavur, a three-day art exhibition organised by the United Painters Association in the city provides a rare opportunity to exhibit their skills.

A number of artists from these districts have displayed their work that ranges from water colour and pencil to acrylic and charcoal and from oil colour and pastel to poster.

In all, 160 paintings are on display at the exhibition which is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. to members of public at the Poomalai Complex on Bharathidasan Salai in the city till Sunday.

Inaugurating the exhibition, Maruthi, a noted artist, said each painting was a treasure reflecting the imagination and skill of the individual artist. He urged the artists to utilise social media tools to showcase their talent. In the past decades, in the absence of such social media, it was too difficult to find a platform for getting due recognition.

A. Kalaiselvan, president of United Painters’ Association, said this was the second annual exhibition organised in the city. The objective of the exhibition was to promote creativity among artists. The paintings pertained to lifestyle, still life, portrait, and figurative, said D. Balasundaram, secretary of the association.

Rm. Sethuraman, who had displayed his work on water colour, says an artist should understand a painting brings out the realism in life.

P. Marimuthu, another artist, said his work relieved him of tension and improved the balance of mind at every critical situation.
