146 injured at jallikattu events

A total of 146 persons were injured at jallikattu events held at four places in Pudukottai and Ariyalur districts on Sunday.

While 71 persons were injured in Pudukottai district, 75 others were injured in Ariyalur district.

At Avoor village in Pudukottai, 41 bull-tamers were injured. In all, 631 bulls were brought from Pudukottai and adjoining districts and 185 bull-tamers participated. S. Ganesh, District Collector, inaugurated the jallikattu organised as part of a local temple festival. At Mookampatti village, 30 bull-tamers were injured. In all, 825 bulls and 250 bull-tamers participated.

At Kakkaperumanadu near Ponnamaravathy, 10 persons, including two constables were injured. In all, 500 bulls were brought for the event.

Ariyalur district

At Karaivetti village in Ariyalur district, a total of 65 bull-tamers were injured. In all, 150 bull-tamers had come from different parts of Ariyalur, Thanjavur and Pudukottai districts and 400 bulls participated. Six persons who suffered serious injuries, have been admitted to the Thanjavur Medical College and Hospital.
