Twelve members of the District Planning Committee from urban and rural local bodies have been elected unopposed. While seven members would represent the rural local bodies in the district, five would represent the urban local bodies of 16 town panchayats, three municipalise and Tiruchi Corporation. R.Sulochana, K.Thangavel, P.C.Tamilazhagan, C.Malathi, R.Rajmohan, S.Reena and T.Rukmani were elected from the rural local bodies.
The urban local bodies would be represented by A.Shanmugam and P.Rajendran (both councillors of Tiruchi Corporation), R.Arjunan (Thuraiyur municipality), M.Srinivasan (Thuvakudi municipality) and R.Kaviarasan (Thottiyam town panchayat).
DRO T.Thiyagarajan handed over election certificates to the new members of the committee on Tuesday in the presence of T.Rajathi, chairperson, district panchayat council, and officials.
