A school boy was killed by a speeding tractor here in Thiruvaalaputhur in Manalmedu on Thursday night.
Eleven-year-old Akash was walking with his father late night, when he was knocked down by the tractor carrying sugarcane. According to the police, the vehicle ran over the fallen boy and succumbed on his way to Tiruvarur General Hospital.
The tractor driver has absconded. The death of the boy sparked outrage in the area.
The angry residents staged a blockade and seized the tractor.
Later the police intervened and held talks with the protestors.
