10-kW solar panel to be installed at Trichy railway division office

The Tiruchirapalli Railway Division has proposed to install 10 kilowatt solar panel at its divisional office here, said Manjula Rangarajan, Divisional Railway Manager.

The division has also planned to install a solar water heater at its Running Room in Villupuram.

The division has so far replaced 3,300 conventional tube fittings with energy efficient T5 fittings, said Ms. Rangarajan at an energy conservation week seminar organised by the electrical wing of the division here on Friday.

Energy management consultants P. Kothandaraman and S. Mahadevan spoke on the occasion on the topic “energy scenario and challenges and on energy excellence”. The DRM distributed prizes to the winners of essay and quiz competitions. Electrical maintenance depot of Tiruchi bagged the first prize among the seven depots in the division for effectively implementing energy conservation measures in stations and service buildings.
