In India, corruption begins when parents offer cash at temples for the betterment of their children’s prospects, said State Police Chief (SPC) Loknath Behera.

Addressing students of the Laxmi Bai National College for Physical Education (LNCPE) on the occasion of the Transparency International India Club and Literary Society inauguration here on Monday, Mr. Behera said the younger generation should be ready to react against corruption in any segment of society.

Unfortunately, India occupied 79th position in the international corruption index where as social democracies such as Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland and New Zealand were absolutely free from corruption, Mr. Behera said.

Chief Information Commissioner Vinson M. Paul inaugurated the club and the literary society.

Transparency International Kerala chapter president and former DGP M.N. Krishnamoorthy chaired the function.
