The State Women’s Commission has cautioned P. C. George, MLA, against attempting to intimidate it from discharging its constitutional duties.

Mr. George seems to have forgotten his stature as a legislator in criticising the SWC for having taken a suo motu case over his comments against the female actor who had been abducted and assaulted in Kochi, the chairperson of the Commission, M. C. Josephine, said in a statement here on Sunday.

Legislators have a commitment to the legal system and the oath of office. The legislation giving SWC the power to take suo motu case and to prosecute had been passed by the State Assembly. The SWC will intervene whenever women are denied justice or discriminated against.

Mr. George’s explanation will be sought by the SWC at his convenience, the statement said.
