Minister for Transport V.S. Sivakumar has said that coastal areas in the city will soon be brought into the water supply and sewerage network.
Presiding over a meeting of ward councillors and officials representing various departments here on Saturday, Mr. Sivakumar, who represents the Thiruvananthapuram Assembly constituency, said work on the Rs.300-crore water supply scheme taken up under the JICA (Japanese International Cooperation Agency) scheme and the Rs.81.77-crore sewerage project funded by the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) would be completed soon.
The Minister said the extension of the sewerage network to Poonthura, Manikyavilakam, Beemapally, Beemapally East, Valiathura, Vallakadavu, Shanghumukhom, Vettukad, Kannanthura, Chakka, Muttathara, Puthenpally, Pazhanchira, Perunthanni, and Kadakampally wards would be completed on a time-bound schedule.
Tender process
He said the tendering of the project would commence as soon as the acquisition of land for construction of pump houses was completed.
Mr. Sivakumar said all damaged manholes in the constituency would be replaced with new ones.
He told the meeting that the process of replacing old pipelines servicing the Manikyavilakam, Valiathura, Beemapally, and Muttathara areas would be completed by March.
He urged the City Corporation to ensure the installation of more public taps and street lights in the coastal belt.
Title deeds
Mr. Sivakumar directed revenue officials to take steps to issue title deeds to residents with possession certificate.
Senior officials of the Revenue Department, Kerala State Electricity Board, Kerala Water Authority, and Kerala Road Fund Board were present.
