Water supply to many parts of the city, disrupted owing to a power supply snag at the Aruvikkara pumping station of the Kerala Water Authority (KWA), is likely to be restored before Monday noon.
Officials of the KWA said the snag in the electrical component of one of the four pumps used to draw ‘raw water’ to the treatment plant was yet to be rectified. It could take a couple of days more, with technicians from the Chennai unit of Siemens, the firm that supplied the component, expected to reach here by Monday or early Tuesday.
Till then, a pump from the old plant would be used. Valve adjustments were being done to ensure that there were no major water shortage issues in the city, they said.
A few elevated areas, including Karamana and Vattiyurkavu, could face minor issues till noon, a KWA official said.
Leak rectified
A leak that was detected on a 500-mm pipeline passing under the railway track at Thampanoor was rectified early Sunday. The leak, officials said, was not a major one, and was plugged without having to dislodge the rail tracks.
A connection work undertaken simultaneously near the Thakaraparambu flyover, for which a water supply disruption notification was issued on Friday, was progressing, and would be completed early Monday, KWA Chief Engineer (South) P. Sreekumaran Nair said.
