Water supply from Aruvikkara line likely to be restored today

Repair on Aruvikkara line nearing completion

November 11, 2013 03:50 pm | Updated May 28, 2016 03:30 am IST - THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:

The maintenance and repairs of the Kerala Water Authority’s (KWA) main transmission line from Aruvikkara to the city on Sunday are nearing completion and water supply is likely to be restored by early on Monday, officials have said.

The works included the separation of inter-connected lines, which were affecting water supply in some zones, and the plugging of a leak near Peroorkada. The zonal inter-connections, enabled a few years ago for tapping water from other zones during times of emergency, were now creating problems in certain zones, officials said. Since the supply system was being improved through other modes, these inter-connections were being done away with. Meanwhile, the work disrupted water supply to several areas in the city from 6 a.m. on Sunday. The affected areas included those under the Pattoor and Palayam sections .

Officials said supply to areas under the Kowdiar and Peroorkada sections was disrupted in the afternoon.

Alternative arrangements were made with the KWA’s tankers, officials said.
